- 2 cups flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups buttermilk or soured* milk
- 6 tablespoons butter, melted
- 3 large eggs
- Optional Toppings such as syrups, fresh fruit, jams, whipped cream, etc.
Prepare waffle iron according to manufacturer's instructions.
In a medium bowl either sift or stir with a wire whisk the first set of ingredients. Set aside. In a large or glass batter bowl, combine the second set of ingredients. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ones. Stir until combined. Ladle 1/2 to 3/4 cup of batter into waffle maker. Bake according to appliance directions.
I made my batter the night before and refrigerated it. I let it sit on the counter while the waffle maker was heating up.
I was able to make 6 waffles, but the first one wasn't all that great looking. The number of servings also depends on the size of your waffle maker.
*If you don't have buttermilk, add 2 tablespoons of white vinegar to a measuring cup. Fill the rest of it with milk to get 2 cups.
