Basic Sugar Cookie

Ingredients description
- 2 cups unsalted butter, room temperature
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 5 cups all purpose flour
- toppings (coarse sugar, sprinkles, etc)
Preparation
- Cream butter and sugar on high speed until light and fluffy (about 5 minutes). Add eggs, vanilla, and salt. mix on medium speed until combined. With mixer on low speed, add flour in 2 batches, mixing just until incorporated.
- Divide dough into 4 equal portions. Place each on a piece of plastic wrap; flatten into disks. Wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (or up to 1 week in fridge OR can be frozen).
- After refrigerating, roll dough out on floured surface and use cookie cutters (bottom of glass) to create cookies. Decorate with sprinkles and sugar before baking.
- Bake at 350F for about 7 minutes.
- cool - Ice cookies if desired.
Notes
To achieve a chewier cookie, under cook for a minute or so and let cool on the cookie sheet.
Incorporate the "holding" time when thinking about baking these!!!
