Basic Sugar Cookie

Melt in your mouth!!
Ingredients description
  • 2 cups unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 5 cups all purpose flour
  • toppings (coarse sugar, sprinkles, etc)
Preparation
  1. Cream butter and sugar on high speed until light and fluffy (about 5 minutes).  Add eggs, vanilla, and salt.  mix on medium speed until combined.  With mixer on low speed, add flour in 2 batches, mixing just until incorporated.
  2. Divide dough into 4 equal portions.  Place each on a piece of plastic wrap; flatten into disks.  Wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (or up to 1 week in fridge OR can be frozen).
  3. After refrigerating, roll dough out on floured surface and use cookie cutters (bottom of glass) to create cookies. Decorate with sprinkles and sugar before baking.
  4. Bake at 350F for about 7 minutes.
  5. cool - Ice cookies if desired. 
Notes

To achieve a chewier cookie, under cook for a minute or so and let cool on the cookie sheet.

Incorporate the "holding" time when thinking about baking these!!!
