Apple Crisp Pudding

  • 4 1/2 cups sliced, pared apples
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsps lemon juice
  • 2 tblsps water
  • 4 tblsps (1/4 cup) butter
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar firmly packed
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 3/4 cup rolled oats
  • cinnamon to taste

 

Preparation

Preheat oven to 375°.

Grease a deep baking dish (loaf pan size). Prepare apples, measure and arrange in dish. Sprinkle with granulated sugar. Combine lemon juice and water and pour over apples. Cream butter, gradually add brown sugar and blend in flour and oats. Spread over apples. Bake in oven preheated to 375° (moderately hot oven) until apples are tender, about 35 minutes. Serve warm, plain or with ice cream and whip cream. 

Notes
If apples are tart, sprinkle with 3/4 cup sugar in place of the 1/2 cup. If apples are dry/firm type, use 4 tblsps of water instead of 2.
